The Power of Unity and Teamwork

It is good and pleasant when God’s people live together in peace! 2 It is like perfumed oil poured on the priest’s head and running down his beard. It ran down Aaron’s beard and on to the collar of his robes. 3 It is like the dew of Mount Hermon falling on the hills of Jerusalem. There the Lord gives his blessing of life forever .” – Psalm 133

There are specific principles in scripture that are timeless and every time a group of people find them and apply those principles success is guaranteed in their enterprise. Two of such timeless principle are unity and team work. In these series, we will be studying these two invaluable principles for successful work from biblical perspective and look at examples in practice and how to apply these to our work as a church. Unity and teamwork commands God's blessings on His children, it's therefore important that believers unite and work together in building God's kingdom here on earth.

Principles of team work - The Godhead Example.

  1. The trinity is the origin of team work!
  • The Godhead – Father, Son and Holy Spirit gives us the classic and perfect example of cooperation in team work.
  • God the Father started the creation project – Genesis 1:1 "In the beginning God created the sky and the earth."
  • God, the Son and Holy Spirit joined in carrying out the project - Genesis 1: 2-3 "The earth was empty and had no form. Darkness covered the ocean, and God’s Spirit was moving over the water. Then God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light." John 1:1-3 "In the beginning there was the Word. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. All things were made by him, and nothing was made without him."

Question: Why did the trinity cooperate in team work?

  1. Shared vision - Genesis 1:26Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground."(NIV) Unity and teamwork comes from having a common vision. The Godhead had a common vision of creating  a universe for the ultimate of their creation mankind, made in the image of GOD for fellowship with Him. Genesis 2:7 “the LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.”
  2.  Shared commitment - Genesis 1:2 “... and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.” The Word and the Spirit were all committed to the project and each played their part in the creation project. The Word was the agent of all creation highlighted by John "From the very beginning the Word was with God. 3And with this Word, God created all things. Nothing was made without the Word.” (CEV)
  1. Shared responsibility and agreementAll the Godhead had their responsibilities in the act of creation and there was perfect agreement between the God the Father, the Son and Holy Spirit in all that they did. Genesis 1:26 “Then God said, “Let us make human beings in our image and likeness...
  1. Shared achievements and rewards - There was  satisfaction of accomplishment. The Godhead achieved all that they set out to do as a result of the unity and teamwork. – Genesis 1:31 “God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.” This unity and achievement led to Corporate rest and peace – Genesis 2:1-3 “Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array. 2 By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. 3 And God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done. (NIV)

In conclusion, the Godhead has set us a perfect example for us to follow. There is tremendous power in unity and teamwork! We can learn these principles and ensure success in what we have been called to do as a church. We need to unite and work together to bring to pass God's purposes here on earth. We will consider particular human examples of team work and the results they achieved. look forward to spending time with you! See you in church. Pastor Alex.
