The Greatest Love Story Ever Told!

HAPPY EASTER Love is the subject most talked, written and sung about in the world! We’ve all grown up with many iconic love songs like “All You Need is Love” by the Beatles and “I will Always Love Youby Whitney Houston. Everyone is looking for love in so many different ways. The question is what kind of love are you pursuing?

From time immemorial the subject of love has always fascinated humankind. Many Hollywood blockbuster movies such as “Casablanca”, “Bridget Jones Diary”, “When Harry Met Sally”, “The Graduate”, “Going the Distance” etc. have been made from great and inspiring love stories.

However, there is one story that tops them all! The greatest love story ever told regards sacrifice, hope, unconditional, selfless love and a willingness to pay the ultimate price for love – Death! By a lover for the beloved. Simply put, in this story the beloved does not deserve to be loved at all!  In almost every love relationship, the partners (the lover and the beloved) are attracted to each other based on something they give to other.

Contrarily, in the greatest love story; the beloved is incredibly from a lowly background, extremely self-centred, promiscuous, messed up and estranged from her lover. It is therefore highly surprising and almost unbelievable that a person from a noble background with power and wealth would go after her!

Any thinking commentator on this love story, would be puzzled by this somewhat bizarre and unexplained love relationship - nobility willing to condescend so low and love a ‘tramp’, pay for all the debts and charges imposed on the messed up lover, who honestly deserves every bit of her punishment. In fact, the story defies all human logic and understanding.

One could rightly ask: Are there not enough ‘high society and posh women’ around for this nobleman to choose a beloved from? What was so attractive about this ‘tramp’? Yes, you’re right to ask this question. Probably, if you and I were the judges we might simply conclude: why bother?

Exactly, these were the same questions running through my mind, when I was told this love story. “She didn’t deserve to be loved! Leave her to wallow in her own mess!” I concluded.

When the characters in this love story were revealed to me – the messed up beloved being us and the noble lover being God, I regretted my views about this messed up tramp. I soon realised how gracious God is towards us all. I was filled with tremendous gratitude for the fact that someone could love me so unconditionally. The most natural thing to do in response to such amazing love was to give my life to Christ and promise to follow Him.

The Bible says: “God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son so that whoever believes in him may not be lost, but have eternal life.” – John 3:16.

This is what Easter is all about – “Love Revealed”. God loves us so much that He came to live amongst us in the person of Jesus Christ and willingly died a painful death on the cross to pay for the penalty of our sins. This is the greatest love story ever told. We can now receive unconditional love through Jesus Christ! I hope you find true love in Him.

If you would like to discuss this issue of love, you’re warmly invited to visit our friendly church service on Sundays 10.30am at The Life Centre in Market Weighton YO43 3AH.

Happy Easter to you and your family! I wish you the love Christ during this Easter time.

What Is this Life All About?

This is an age old question that philosophers, anthropologist, great thinkers and ordinary men have grapple with up to today! We go through life day in and day out,  striving and stressing to achieve our plans, goals, targets, dreams, deadlines just to name a few. We acquire things and we lose things! We spend time to build things and we speedily break down or  destroy things. We wake up each day with a number things on our agenda and schedules to complete. Some days are great and some days are bad. Some days we are greeted with good news and some days with bad news. Sometimes we feel high and sometimes we feel low.

Over the centuries, people who think and observe things in the midst of this rat race as the legendary Bob Marley called it, have STOP! and ask this basic question: What Is this Life All about? One of such people was King Solomon of Israel who around 950 BC asked a series of pointed questions about the significance of life, death-the common destiny of all mankind, time, wealth, pleasures and enjoyment, oppression, toil, seeking knowledge, wisdom, advancement, government and authority, generosity and philanthropy, and worship

After a long study and analysis, King Solomon concluded that most of the things we spend our lives chasing after are all meaningless in his word! (Ecclesiastes chapters 1-11). He concluded his thesis in Ecclesiastes chapter 12 with the following statements:

"9 The Teacher was very wise and taught the people what he knew. He very carefully thought about, studied, and set in order many wise teachings. 10 The Teacher looked for just the right words to write what is dependable and true. 11 Words from wise people are like sharp sticks used to guide animals. They are like nails that have been driven in firmly. Altogether they are wise teachings that come from one Shepherd. 12 So be careful, my son, about other teachings. People are always writing books, and too much study will make you tired."Lifeforetold

There are truths about life that one can find and MUST never be ignored, if we are going find meaning and satisfaction in life.
I hope you find out for yourself answers these age old questions including:
What on Earth are we here for?
What happens when the curtain is drawn over our lives on Earth?
How can we make the most of our time here on earth?
How can we live a life of meaning and purpose, which goes beyond our personal interests?
How can we overcome our greatest enemy, SELF and the obstacles that life put in front of us?
What is the Hope for humanity? etc.

Listen to the concluding statements of the wiseman, King Solomon's after he had considered everything: verse 13-14“Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandment, for this is the duty of all mankind. 14For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil.”

Dear friends, let's take heed to sound advice and consider our relationship with God, the loving Father who made us for an intimate relationship of worship. If like the prodigal Son, you are still far away from your loving Father, I encourage you to take steps back home to the Father who cares about your everyday well-being and eternal destination. A warm and tumultuous welcome awaits YOU as you ask God the for forgiveness of your sins and invite His son Jesus Christ into your life! You will find an inner peace, joy in your heart and you will truely understand the meaning of this statement "We have never had it so good!"

If you would like to invite Jesus into your life and need help please just sincerely pray this short prayer from your heart. "Dear Lord Jesus, I am sinner separated from a loving father. Please forgive me all my sins and come into my life today. I promise to follow you the rest of my life. Teach me and guide me in the path of life and help me now live to serve your purpose and others with my life. Amen!
